Congress Election Manifesto 2019 Highlights: Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday unveiled the grand old partys manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the presence of Sonia Gandhi and former PM Manmohan Singh. Speaking on the occasion, Rahul said that the election document reflects the voice of common people. When we started this process about a year back, I spoke to Chidamabaram, Gowda and gave them two instructions. I said this is not a manifesto to be made in closed rooms but this should reflect the wishes of the people of India. I also said that whatever is going to be in this manifesto has to be truthful, I do not want a single thing in this manifesto that is a lie because we have been hearing large number of lies spoken everyday by our Prime Minister, he said. Rahul promised to launch minimum income scheme under which Rs 72,000 annually will be given to five crore families. He said that if his party is elected to power, the new government would spend 6% of the GDP on education and free education will be provided to every child from Class 1 to 8. The Congress president added that 4 lakh vacancies in the Central government will be filled by March 2020. Besides, it will persuade the state governments to initiate process to fill 20 lakh vacancies. Also, 10 lakh Seva Mitra positions would be created in every gram panchayat and urban local body. Senior party leader P Chidambaram said that wealth and welfare is the manifestos central theme. He said that real issues in the country are unemployment, farmer distress and womens safety.
