Andhra Pradesh Assembly election 2019: Chandrababu Naidu, son Nara Lokesh find space in Telugu Desam Party’s first list of candidates

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has released the first list of candidates for the upcoming Assembly election in Andhra Pradesh. TDP, the ruling party in Andhra Pradesh, released its first list of 126 candidates on Thursday night, for the April 11 assembly election, amid unprecedented protests and rebellion in the party. The party aims at securing at least 150 seats out of the total 175 in the assembly. The list contains many high-profile names including Chief Minister and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu and his son Nara Lokesh. Naidu will be contesting the Assembly election for the seventh time from Kuppam in his native Chittoor district. Like his father, Lokesh chose a constituency that has a predominant backward class population from Mangalagiri constituency in the Amravati capital region. The announcement came in a late-night press conference, where Naidu called it Mission 150 Plus. The TDP chief, who released an audio song for the campaign, said he would kick start the campaign from Srikakulam district on March 16 after worshipping Lord Venkateswara atop the Tirumala Hills. We have balanced various equations and selected the candidates. It is now up to the people to bless these candidates as I take the responsibility of their future in my hands, PTI quoted Naidu as saying. Meanwhile, Naidu said the first list of candidates for the Lok Sabha election, scheduled simultaneously, would be announced Friday. The Election Commission of India has announced that Andhra Pradesh will go to polls in a single phase on April 11. Both the parliamentary and legislative assembly polls will be held in the state simultaneously. While parliamentary elections will be held across 25 seats, the state assembly has 175 chairs. This would be the first assembly election in the state post-bifurcation.
