He along with his grandson Aashray Sharma joined the party after meeting Congress president Rahul Gandhi. Aashray seeks to contest from the Mandi Lok Sabha seat in the upcoming polls. The BJP has fielded the sitting MP Ramswaroop Sharma from this constituency. His father was with Congress government in Himachal Pradesh during the tenure of Virbhadra Singh, but joined the BJP later. In another development, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan today met Trinamool Congress supremo and west Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
