Mumbai CST bridge collapse: Man pushed father to safety just in time, but gets crushed under debris


As authorities continue to bicker over fixing responsibility for CST foot overbridge collapse in which six people were killed on Thursday, a tragic story of a son saving his fathers life during the incident has emerged. Zahid, 32, pushed his 60-year old father, Siraj, to safety when the bridge began wobbling. A helpless Siraj witnessed his son being crushed by cement slabs of the foot overbridge. Zahid left behind his parents, a younger brother, wife and two daughters, one aged six and the other just eight months. ALSO READ: Siraj had moved to Mumbai from Prayagraj nearly 40 years ago and set up a stall on the road. The family initially lived at Nitya Nagar in Ghatkopar West before Siraj saved enough to buy the apartment where they now live At least six persons were killed and 31 injured during evening rush hour on Thursday when the bridge that connected the area near the Times of India building with the iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus railway station. ALSO READ: Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the family of the deceased and said probe will be conducted by a high-level committee to know the circumstances under which the decades old overbridge collapsed.
