Series of diplomatic disasters: Congress on PM Modi’s foreign policy after China blocks Masood Azhar listing at UN

The Congress party poked fun at Prime Minister Narendra Modi after China once again blocked Indias bid to designate Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist at the UN Security Council. In a tweet this morning, senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal slammed PM Modi for being soft on China, adding that his summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Wuhan and hosting the latter in India never had any agenda. UN Security Council Resolution 1267 Modiji What happened to the Wuhan spirit? Now that Pakistans big brother Has protected Masood Azhar! the former Union minister tweeted. Another Congress leader and the partys chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala also slammed PM Modi following Chinas move to block the listing of Masood Azhar. Surjewala said that PM Modis foreign policy is to blame for Beijings support to the Pakistani terrorist. Sadly, Modijis foreign policy has been a series of diplomatic disasters, he said. After 56 inchs hugplomacy and the game of sitting on a swing also, the China-Pakistan duo is showing red eyes to India, the Congress leader said in another tweet. He also termed China blocking Masood Azhars designation a sad day in the global fight against terrorism. On Wednesday, China again put a technical hold on the proposal in the UNSC to ban Masood Azhar. This was the fourth technical hold put by China on Indias bid to block Azhar. China said that it needs more time to examine the sanctions request against Masood Azhar. The proposal to designate Azhar under the 1267 Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee was moved by France, UK and US in last week of February, days after the Pulwama terror attack that left over 40 CRPF soldiers dead. Pakistan-based JeM had claimed responsibility for the attack.
